An microphone? Perhaps a turkey leg?

Even just being aware of what you have in your hands can be challenging during a live performance. Thankfully, there is normally a backup microphone on a news reporter’s lapel to record their words if they forget to turn on a mic or have one in their hands. While covering the Maryland State Fair, Lisa Robinson forgot which hand held which and lost track, much to the delight of both her and the viewers, while holding up the turkey leg and speaking into it. However, nothing could help her when she was holding a microphone in one hand and a turkey leg in the other. Fortunately, Robinson chose to laugh it off and carry on with her program rather than take the matter too seriously.
