The ideal perch

Many individuals believe that local news is merely for the birds and has no purpose beyond amusement. When San Diego’s KFMB news station made a small animal mistake on broadcast, it did little to alter this view. One of the visitors chose to waltz on-air unannounced, as anchor Nichelle Medina was merely reporting on a new addition to the San Diego Zoo. And that visitor was none other than 10-year-old Sophie, a scarlet ibis. KFMB San Diego Amazingly, Sophie swooped directly into the live shot, nearly taking out one of Medina’s eyes before perching on top of her head. Soon after, it took off once more, this time heading in the general direction of Medina’s co-anchor, Eric Kahnert. Thankfully, the animal trainer was able to regain control of the bird after a short while. But things might have gotten nasty if they had inch-long, razor-sharp talons!
