This image was taken three years ago by Dawn Wilson, who captioned it “Shaking Off 2020.” Not only was that year difficult for people, but it was also difficult for birds. In early January 2021, Wilson was in southern Louisiana, taking pictures of brown pelicans in the rain.

She said the pelicans were rising to their feet, scuffing the rain from their bodies, and going out to fish. Wilson captured this image of a bird that appeared to be recovering after a difficult year because he was in the right spot at the right moment.
