Materials Required: Carbon-rich materials (browns) and food scraps (greens).
Making Cost: $0*
Contrary to popular belief, compost cannot be made only of food scraps. One organic item you may create and add to the soil is compost. It promotes healthier and more productive plant growth. Compost can be made from kitchen scraps, but it needs to contain both greens and browns.

Browns are materials high in carbon, whereas greens are food scraps and kitchen waste. Straws, sawdust, little wood chips, and decaying leaves are examples of brown materials. Place items such as fruits, vegetables, bread, grains, dairy products, coffee filters, unbleached napkins, meats, eggshells, and newspapers in your trash can from your kitchen. Depending on the materials utilized and the size of the pile, the composting process will probably take a few weeks.
