5. The Urban Ambassador

A sloth called “Luna” unexpectedly came to represent urban wildlife adaption in a crowded section of San José, Costa Rica.Living in a little park bordered by offices, Luna showed how, given enough thought, animals might flourish in metropolitan environments. Her presence motivated nearby companies to start green projects and design areas hospitable to wildlife. The neighborhood banded together to save her environment, which resulted in green areas and urban wildlife corridors all across the city.Luna’s narrative informed urban design rules and demonstrated how cities may preserve biodiversity while yet growing.
