If you are in Guatemala before to Christmas, you will need to clean a lot. The week prior to the celebration, Guatemalans pick up rubbish and heap all of the waste into a massive pile. The devil effigy is then placed atop the pile.
– Burning The Devil
Then La Quema del Diablo, or The Burning of the Devil, starts. The devil and any negative energy from the previous year are burned by Guatemalans, who then use the ashes of the pile to begin a new, better year.
