5. The international airport in Kuala Lumpur

The ceiling of this Malaysian airport is decorated with spotlights and is made of tapering beams and wooden slats. Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa created it, and it appears to be a wonderfully tranquil place to meander through. Hyperbolic paraboloids (surreal domes) are supported in international departures by tapering columns, giving the area a simple yet refined appearance.
