3. J-16D: The Dragon’s Shield

For the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, China’s J-16D marks a dramatic improvement in electronic warfare capability. This specialist variant, based on the J-16 fighter platform, has a totally rebuilt nose cone housing extensive electronic surveillance equipment and several jammer pods. The electronic warfare suite of the aircraft can simultaneously monitor, analyse, and jam several frequency ranges. Modern air warfare environments find it a flexible platform since it can do both escort jamming and stand-off electronic attacks. Artificial intelligence algorithms improve their danger recognition and reaction capacity, therefore enabling automated countermeasures against challenging electronic threats.
