15.The USS Los Angeles

Located at: NAS Lakehurst, New Jersey Eastern. Price: not specified
Years ago, a sudden cold front passed through NAS Lakehurst, New Jersey, and caused the USS Los Angeles, a rigid airship, to raise its tail before it could swing parallel to the new wind direction. This resulted in an unusual sight: a vessel measuring 658 feet long standing on its nose.

This startling picture served as a stark reminder of the airship’s enormity, particularly in light of the tower that stood next to it being minuscule in comparison. Built in the 1940s, the airship made its debut one year ahead of the end of World War II.
