America’s venerable Patriot air defence system has evolved latest under the PAC-3. Using hit-to–kill technology to directly strike approaching hazards instead of depending on proximity detonation, this system shines in ballistic missile defence. Engaging up to 36, the PAC-3’s radar can track over 100 targets concurrently. Its missiles can intercept targets at altitudes up to 24 kilometres and run Mach 5. The sophisticated electronic counter-countermeasures (ECCM) features of the system guarantee efficiency even in strongly crowded electromagnetic surroundings. Recent enhancements include better interoperability with other air defence systems, upgraded radar capability, and software.
