The head gardener in Uruguay’s botanical garden grew close to a family of capybaras.Known fondly as “Rosa,” the lead capybara displayed a remarkable awareness of which parts of the garden required work.Her family’s natural grazing patterns helped to keep the grounds in good condition; they deliberately avoided rare and sensitive species.Their presence drew more people to the garden and spurred the creation of unique wildlife preservation education initiatives.The gardener recorded how the activities of the capybaras really enhanced the quality of the soil and plant variety, therefore generating fresh understanding of appropriate methods of natural landscape design.
