Rarely do television shows featuring gangsters who murder and take advantage of people for profit use the word “billion.” However, the likelihood is that you are unaware of the sheer magnitude of a billion if you have never seen something with that many digits in real life.

This is particularly true when you compare terms that rhyme but have completely different magnitudes—a billion against a million! Therefore, if we attempt to calculate the difference using this image, one million seconds is equivalent to eleven days. Thus, one billion seconds is equivalent to roughly ten or eleven months, right? No. That translates to 31.5 years.
