Despite being a popular topic for tabloids and gossip columns, the British Royal Family must maintain a conspicuous silence on these issues. This regulation portrays the monarchy as elegant, restrained, and above the everyday gossip.

They preserve a greater degree of respect and prevent inadvertent blunders that can result in global incidents by refraining from spreading or reacting to obscene rumours. Because they are people, they probably want to know what is being said to them behind closed doors. However, you will never hear a royal divulging the most recent rumours in public.
