5. Active Protection Systems
Active Protection Systems (APS) evolved to reflect a quantum jump in IFV survivability. These systems automatically implement countermeasures to intercept approaching hazards using infrared sensors and radar, therefore preventing impact. Among the many dangers modern APS can neutralize are anti-tank guided missiles, rocket-propelled grenades, and even kinetic energy projectiles. In urban combat settings where conventional armor by itself is inadequate, this technique has greatly increased IFV survivability.
