6. Foot Massage Fundamentals

Developing a harmonic practice depends on one first mastering the fundamental foot massage techniques. Working from the toes to the heel, start by gently warming the feet with soft strokes using your whole palm. Focus especially on the foot’s arch and apply hard but comfortable pressure in circular motions. Learn to spot and deal with the main pressure points—the reflex points matching different organs and the solar plexus point in the middle of the foot. Being aware of any very sensitive or tense regions, use your thumbs to create small, deep circles along the whole foot. Try several pressure levels and stroke techniques to find the ideal for you. Always have a consistent, rhythmic speed that lets you remain present and conscious all through the massage.
