8. A Golden Invitation

Given to the Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth
Given by: Thailand’s King and Queen Estimated value: $100–200*
In 1972, the King and Queen of Thailand extended a golden invitation to Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh, which was yet another lavish gift. Over the years, the Queen received many gifts, but only one golden invitation. A dinner invitation was sent out when the Queen and Duke were on a state visit to Thailand.

The box’s exterior was composed of swirl-patterned, gold-painted metal that was intricately fashioned. According to reports, the interior was constructed out of cardboard, so it didn’t really match the exterior’s opulence. The golden invitation, in any case, was far fancier than standard cardboard.
