A Race for Speed atop Ostriches

Since ostrich speed racing is a relatively new activity, there are currently no set rules for organizing and running these races. Ostrich races last 400 meters on average, and during them, the animals can reach 45 to 50 km/h. The rider’s main objective is to stay on the bird and cross the finish line unharmed. Specialized saddles, stirrups, and reins may be used in certain speed races. It is mandatory for jockeys to don protective gear when competing in these races.
