The initial purpose of the multirole, canard-delta-wing Eurofighter Typhoon was air supremacy. The Typhoon was produced by a conglomerate created especially for the project, as opposed to being produced by a single company, as many fighter jets from Boeing and other industries were.

Together, Airbus, Leonardo, and BAE Systems formed a collaboration under the direction of NATO and Tornado Management. Its development started in the early 1980s, and on March 27, 1994, it made its first flight. August 2003 saw the official introduction of the Typhoon to the RAF, GAF, IAF, and SAF. It is still operational.
