The Air Force Joint Specialized Undergrad Pilot Instruction currently uses the T-1A Jayhawk for instruction. The Jayhawks are only flown by students who have been chosen to operate tankers or strategic aircraft. With these planes, CSOs train as well. In 1991, the Jayhawk made its maiden flight and was soon after accepted by the USAF.

This Raytheon Technologies aircraft is also in use by the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force, although it is known as the T-400 there. 180 were made between 1992 and 1997. Training aboard this twin-engine jet prepares students to fly airlift and tanker aircraft in the future. The price per unit is $4.1 million.
