“High Mobility Artillery Rocket System” is what HIMARS stands for. The US Army used the M142 HIMARS, which was created in the late 1990s. It is an M1140 truck frame with a rocket launcher added. HIMARS is equipped with six rockets (or one MGM-140 ATACMS missile). It is a member of the Army’s Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV).

The launcher and ammunition for the M142 HIMARS cost $5.1 million. The fleet’s program cost for the M1140 truck to which it is coupled is $406 million. The M270 MLRS and the M142 HIMARS share the same pod. The pod is composed of sapphire layers.
