46. Arm Chair

Price: $86.34*
Made by: Kinfine
Purchased at: Amazon
With this one, it’s a little easier to take the manufacturer’s side, as the title does say “Boys’ Chair” in it. One social media shopper attempted to purchase an armchair from Amazon for a little under $90. Instead of getting a chair for an adult, he got one for a small child (hence the picture of him squeezed sadly into his purchase).

Made by Kinfine, the chair has actually gotten good reviews, so parents are happy about it for their kids. Adults would be wise to check the dimensions (and the title) before purchasing an armchair from Amazon.

47. Xbox One

Price: $750*
Made by: Unknown (but not XBox)
Purchased at: eBay
eBay is hit or miss, and this one definitely counts as a miss. One commenter pointed out that this was a “big case” at the time, so there must have been some dispute about whose fault it was. Most of us likely side with the buyer, as he shelled out $750 for an Xbox One, only to receive a piece of paper on which an Xbox One was printed.

eBay is one of many online vendors that has to grapple with how to deal with scammers. The site tries to balance “buyer beware” with consumer protection, which is not an easy task.

48. Christmas Tree

Price: $23.28*
Made by: Argos
Purchased at: Argos
As the UK news site Metro put it, one mom was “gutted” when she purchased a Christmas tree with which to decorate her home, only to find that the tree looked nothing like it did on the package. The Christmas tree on the $23 package was full, but the tree that came out of the box was extremely sparse.

Zoe McAllister purchased the scarce tree from Argos in Oxfordshire. She reported that she was disappointed at how poorly the tree turned out, but she did have to laugh “for fifteen minutes.” McAllister said she knew she’d have to go buy a new tree “that weekend.”

49. Soup Ladle

Price: Unknown
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Online
When we were young, we all read stories about giants’ houses in mythical fairy tale lands where everything was five times its normal size. One unwary shopper found what appeared to be a kitchen utensil from one such giant’s land when he tried to buy a ladle online and received one that was several sizes too large.

Though the ladle would probably work in a large industrial kitchen, it definitely wasn’t the right fit or a home. Utensil purchasers might want to try ordering from stores like Bed Bath & Beyond or Walmart for less-expensive, properly-sized kitchen tools.

50. iPad

Price: $300-$400 (if a real iPad)*
Made by: Apple (if a real iPad)
Purchased at: An “auction website”
One user thought that he hit the lottery when he stumbled onto a cheap iPad at an “auction website.” The purchase was looking for cheap Christmas gifts. Usually, iPads cost several hundred dollars, but this one didn’t, and he clicked “Buy.”

Unfortunately, despite having the packaging of a real iPad, this iPad ended up being a scammer trying to make a buck. It wasn’t an Apple product at all, but instead a kids’ toy. Alas, this was one case where it seemed too good to be true—and, unfortunately, it was. Hopefully, he got a refund from the auction site, but that isn’t likely.

51. Christmas Mug

Price: $48.48*
Made by: RedBubble (the print)
Purchased at: Amazon
This is basically the holiday version of the “Light Bulb Color-Changing Mug” debacle a few images back. One wary shopper, “Matt,” purchased this mug for his wife. He expected it to change from a black mug to a nice Christmas scene, but that was not what happened. Instead, the seller printed the demo image onto the cup.

The shopper definitely did not find this to be all in good fun, commenting his review on December 26, 2015 (a couple days after the fated holiday mug’s arrival). He said he wanted his “money back” for an “ill-advertised” and “horrible” item. The headline of his review read, “Bad product.”

52. Panda Mask

Price: $4.29-$10*
Made by: The Creme Shop
Purchased at: The Creme Shop
This definitely doesn’t look anything like the package. One shopper bought a French Bulldog face mask from The Crème Shop that would “plump up” her skin. Instead of matching the photo on the front of the packaging, the shopper looked more like she was wearing a Halloween mask than a cute puppy.

The Crème Shop is a real company, selling its products on its website, as well as on Amazon and at CVS. The Korean skincare company’s animal face masks are one of its best-sellers. According to the seller, the masks are designed to target blemishes and acne and detoxify skin.

53. Crochet Crop Top

Price: Unknown (product unavailable)
Made by: Voglee
Purchased at: Amazon
Designed by Voglee on Amazon, this proved to be a good deterrent for people who are already hesitant to purchase clothes online. One shopper’s sixteen-year-old daughter bought the knitted crop top, only to find that it was way smaller than it should have been.

The crop top, as demonstrated from the reviewer’s photos, did fit their pet cat, who looked very unhappy about her new modeling gig. As the reviewer put it, the crop top did “cover” the cat’s chest, so modesty wasn’t an issue. Last we checked, the Voglee knit top is no longer available on Amazon.

54. Dr. Pepper T-Shirt

Price: $19.97*
Made by: Tee Luv
Purchased at: Amazon
Dr. Pepper has expanded its line of products to include many fun t-shirts, keychains, and other souvenirs associated with its famous drink. One promo product included an “I’m a Dr” t-shirt, referencing Dr. Pepper’s moniker. However, when someone went to buy it, there must have been a mix-up.

Instead, the buyer got an “I’m a Pepper” t-shirt. This is a real product, though why someone would advertise that they’re a pepper is unclear. You can buy the “I’m a Pepper” t-shirt on Amazon from Tee Luv for $19.97. The “I’m a Pepper” shirt is well-reviewed too; it has 4.8/5 stars.

55. Alien Balloons

Price: $4.97*
Made by: illooms
Purchased at: Walmart
This is a real product, sold at stores like Walmart, though whether the purchaser got a bad batch or didn’t blow the balloon upright is unknown. Illooms sells a five-pack of “SuperSize Light Up Alien Balloons.” These green aliens are two feet in length, and LED lighting provides their spooky green glow.

Alien Balloons @insertanamehere / Reddit.com
When one purchaser blew the balloon up, it looked more like a giant green eggplant with two dots for eyes than the product on the packaging. The face was shrunk down to microscopic size, while the rest of the alien’s body looked like it had just swallowed a dozen footballs.

56. Minnie Mouse Cake

Price: Unknown
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Unknown
Where the purchaser bought this monstrosity of a cake from is unknown, as is how much it was or who is responsible. One aunt was trying to do a nice thing for her niece, buying her a fun Minnie Mouse birthday cake. The real cake would have been a tidy, neat mouse that all ages could have enjoyed.

What the aunt got instead was a creature dwelling in a nightmarish hellscape from which there is no escape. The cake looked nothing like the photo. One reviewer stated that this cake fail would never “not be funny.” Or creepy, too.

57. Deadpool Costume

Price: $279.99* (real costume)
Made by: Cosfunmax (the correct one)
Purchased at: Amazon
Halloween isn’t the only time for costumes; cosplay is also in season every season. One Deadpool fan tried to buy a copy of the Marvel costume, only to receive something that was not even remotely close to his original purchase. The received costume was barely identifiable as the famed Marvel character.

Deadpool Costume ©Reddit.com
It appears that the costume the reviewer ordered—the correct one—was made by sellers like Cosfunmax. Cosfunmax sells realistic cosplay gear, and its Deadpool movie costume was over $200. It also has a 4.3/5-star review on Amazon. Perhaps there was confusion over at Amazon, because Cosfunmax was definitely not the brand behind the dud Deadpool.

58. Sunglasses

Price: $1-$5*
Made by: Wish
Purchased at: Wish
Wish.com strikes again! @Keo_Manne purchased a pair of aviator-like sunglasses from the online retailer, only to receive them and find that they were more fit for a small child than an adult. @Keo_Manne tweeted, “Can’t get over this” with a bunch of laughing emojis, so hopefully she wasn’t too saddened by the shopping fail.

So, why does Wish have this reputation? The List pointed out that Wish can sell its products so cheap because they are cheap. Almost all of them are made in China, where the cost of labor is low and the labor requirements are quite lax.

59. Wooden Cutting Board

Price: Unknown
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: Unknown
This one seems like another cash of not reading the product dimensions. Dollhouse miniature artists are able to make products look so convincing that unwary shoppers who aren’t paying attention can easily click “Buy” without realizing that the product is 50x smaller than it should be.

Wooden Cutting Board @jennbailey6 / Instagram.com
One buyer found that out when she went to purchase a knife and cutting board. She got a knife and cutting board, just fit for a dollhouse. While we’re not saying you have to purchase a $2,600 John Boos cutting board (yes, that’s a real product), it’s probably best to buy one in person—or check the dimensions first.

60. Princess Leia Costume

Price: $29.99*
Made by: Unknown
Purchased at: A Halloween store
Those of us who are…height-challenged…can relate. One Star Wars fan went to purchase a Princess Leia costume (complete with a dress, belt, and wig) in a size Medium, only to find that the costume she bought was more suited for an XXL size. The Leia costume, likely purchased from a Halloween store, wasn’t cheap–$29.99.
The sleeves extended about a foot past the buyer’s hands, and the dress was baggy and way too long. Hopefully, her review helped people avoid making the same mistake. This wasn’t bought online, judging from the picture on the left, but there is a moral of the story: try clothes on before purchasing.
