7. The exosuit
What it is: a robotic exosuit for individuals with disabilities
Date of invention: 2018; average cost: $24,000*
The HAL exoskeleton from Cyberdene resembles an Iron Man suit from Marvel. The intriguing technology was approved by the corporation for the first time in 2018, but it wasn’t until March 2019 that it was deployed in the US, where it garnered even more attention.

Using the signals from their brain to regulate leg movement, patients with spinal cord injuries are able to climb inside the exoskeleton and walk. HAL programs are not inexpensive, either; sixty-nine-minute sessions cost Americans $24,000, and insurance does not cover them. Cyberdene declares that it is well worth the money.
