It’s unclear if ideas for a flying trainer were filed by US firms like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, or Northrop Grumman. Still, in 2011 the TG-16A was integrated into the Air Force Academy. Additionally, the US Air Force Academy Aerobatic Demonstration Team uses it as their primary competition aircraft.
The TG’s 59-foot spread wings make it an excellent choice for aerobatics. Wings with a 66-foot span on TG-16A plans are certified for restricted aerobatics. The DG1000T engine is situated on the pylon aft of the tandem cockpit. A DG firm designed and manufactured the propeller.
