Weimaraner

The Weimaraner was developed in Germany in the early 19th century for its courage, intelligence, and exceptional scenting abilities to hunt large game. This breed was designed with stamina, speed, and versatility, capable of tracking prey of all sizes, including deer and bears. Its striking grey appearance was famously captured by photographer William Wegman.

The Weimaraner is extremely loyal, often to the point of being overly attached to its owner. It does not handle being alone well and will express its unhappiness vocally. This high-energy breed requires plenty of outdoor activity and thrives with an owner who can dedicate time to keeping it active and engaged. However, separation anxiety is a common issue, as the breed bonds deeply with its family. According to VetStreet, “some Weimaraners become so distraught when left to their own devices that they bark, dig, escape, and even injure themselves.” Additionally, they can be stubborn, demanding, and challenging to house-train.
