Great Dane

The Great Dane is an exceptionally large dog and holds records as the tallest breed. Like the Saint Bernard, it is often called a gentle giant and is known for drooling. It is playful, attentive to children, loves people, and is generally not aggressive. Great Danes are dependable, loyal, and make excellent watchdogs.
However, this massive breed requires consistent training, which should begin early. Even as puppies, they can accidentally knock over children or small furniture. As adults, their tails can easily sweep items off a coffee table. Weighing up to 175 pounds, they cannot be easily carried or moved. Despite their name, Great Danes were originally bred in Germany in the 1300s as skilled hunters capable of taking down wild boars.
