Affenpinscher

The Affenpinscher, meaning “monkey-like terrier” in German, truly lives up to its name. In France, it is nicknamed the “mustachioed devil.” This toy-sized dog is known for its mustache, beard, bushy eyebrows, and a rough-coat cape over its shoulders. Playful and mischievous, it loves to “monkey around,” perfectly matching its unique appearance.

The Affenpinscher is both a barker and a climber, showing no fear and excelling as a rodent hunter. It will even challenge larger dogs without hesitation. While it makes a determined watchdog, its small size limits its protective abilities. Loyal to its family, the Affenpinscher is also bold and stubborn, requiring consistent and vigilant training. Despite weighing only about eight pounds, it will attempt to assert itself as the pack leader. Signs of dominance include growling, snapping, and biting. This breed is not suited for households with children, as it can become aggressive over toys and territorial disputes.
