Shih Tzu

The Shih Tzu is an indoor dog, making it an ideal companion for apartment living. Bred in China for loyalty and as lapdogs, they are playful, fun-loving, and often mischievous. However, Shih Tzus are prone to excessive barking, with their familiar high-pitched “Yap! Yap! Yap!” House training can be particularly challenging unless you are prepared for potential damage to your floors.

As a brachycephalic breed, the Shih Tzu is prone to various health issues, including respiratory problems that may require surgery and frequent dental concerns. Their round, dark eyes are charming but vulnerable to injuries like proptosis and other eye conditions. Additionally, they are at risk for an inherited condition called renal dysplasia.
