St. Bernard

The St. Bernard is named after its role assisting monks at the Saint Bernard Hospice in the Swiss Alps. These dogs were used for search and rescue missions, saving thousands of lives by locating lost travelers. Known as gentle giants, St. Bernards are friendly, patient, and excellent with children.

According to Dog Breed Info, they are patient, obedient, extremely loyal, and eager to please. However, early training is essential. Owners are advised to teach St. Bernards not to jump on people while they are still puppies, as their large size can create serious challenges for even strong adults when walking them on a leash in public. Due to their size, they can pose a safety risk if not properly trained. St. Bernards are also prone to heat exhaustion and prefer staying indoors. Be prepared for drooling and the possibility of them chewing on personal belongings.
