Basenji

The Basenji is not an ideal choice for a family pet. Owners of this high-energy breed often share stories of its destructive and mischievous behavior. As an intelligent dog, it seems to know exactly which possessions you value most. Independent and clever, the Basenji has a personality similar to that of a cat. It is curious, reserved, and highly inquisitive.

With its upright ears and tightly curled tail, the Basenji looks as energetic as it truly is. While it cannot bark, it produces unique sounds, including howls, shrieks, and yodels, that are unlike anything you’ve heard before. This primitive breed was originally discovered by Pygmy hunters in the African Congo. Always alert, Basenjis make excellent watchdogs but require early training to manage their independent nature.
