Cane Corso

The Cane Corso is an intelligent and territorial dog that excels as a watchdog. Originating from Italy, this mastiff breed was developed for hunting large game and can weigh up to 120 pounds. It is not recommended for novice dog owners. Even those experienced with cooperative breeds like Retrievers or Spaniels may struggle with this strong, smart, active, and willful dog.

The Cane Corso is naturally a guard dog and does not warm up to strangers, even with consistent socialization. Owners should ensure the dog gets at least a mile of walking or running daily, along with 20 minutes of training exercises to help manage its high energy levels. Taking this breed to dog parks is not advisable due to its strength and aggressive tendencies. When left alone, it can become destructive and aggressive. However, the Cane Corso is deeply loyal and devoted to its family, reflecting its protective nature.
