Dogo Argentino

The Dogo Argentino is a breed banned in the UK under the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act. Originally bred in Argentina for big-game hunting, it was used to hunt large prey such as pumas and also served as a protector for humans. However, due to its dominant traits—stubbornness, intelligence, and a strong-willed nature—the breed has been banned in several countries.

This dog is not suitable for first-time owners. The Dogo is large, powerful, and energetic, requiring a calm, firm, and consistent leader. Without proper guidance, it can become destructive and take control. Even a well-trained Dogo may attack neighbors’ pets, including cats and small dogs, making a high fence a necessity. The Dogo Argentino is a natural worker, and without a task to focus on, it is likely to chew on personal belongings.
