Belgian Malinois

The Belgian Malinois is not an ideal breed for children. Originally bred as a herder, it has a tendency to bite or nip at kids as if trying to keep them in line. The breed gained popularity in the late 1800s in Belgium, where it worked as either a shepherd or a guard dog. Today, the Belgian Malinois remains one of Belgium’s most cherished breeds.

This breed is intelligent, obedient, and has strong territorial instincts. A Malinois requires a firm and fair owner, as a harsh approach will result in an uncooperative dog. These dogs need vigorous daily exercise and are high-energy. Without proper socialization and training, they can become destructive and difficult to manage.
