Shar-Pei

The Shar-Pei is known for its wrinkly skin, a feature especially noticeable in puppies, which gradually grow into their folds. While the wrinkles are endearing, they are prone to infection and require regular cleaning with a damp cloth. Similar to the Chow Chow, Shar-Peis have a dark tongue, suggesting the two breeds may have been cross-bred at some point, as both trace their origins to ancient China.

Shar-Peis are territorial and can be aggressive. While proper socialization is possible, this breed requires a professional trainer starting from puppyhood. Due to its aloof nature, the Shar-Pei may not be a suitable pet for children, as it does not enjoy hugs or cuddles. Despite this, it needs to be kept indoors. The breed is intelligent but stubborn, making it unsuitable for inexperienced owners.
