Doberman Pinscher

Doberman Pinschers are highly energetic, large, and strong dogs that excel as guard dogs. However, this breed is not suitable for everyone. It requires extensive training from a handler who is more dominant than the dog. Without proper attention, a Doberman can become bored, destructive, and excessively vocal.

The breed was originally developed by a German tax collector who needed a powerful and reliable guard dog to protect collected tax money. It was first recognized at a dog show in Erfurt in 1897. Dobermans are tall, shorthaired, and known for their strength and stamina. They are loyal, tolerant, and devoted to their families. While they are easy to train, few owners can provide the consistent, confident, and rule-based guidance they need. Without this structure, a Doberman may become willful and stubborn.
