Due to a long list of political disputes and infighting inside the Tammany-Hall-controlled NY Bridge Company, the new hybrid design was repeatedly canceled and then relaunched. It opened at last, after thirteen years of bureaucratic entanglement. The Brooklyn Bridge was renovated in the 1950s, 1980s, and 2010 with millions of dollars’ worth of additional enhancements, and it is included on numerous lists of historical landmarks.
