Found Year: 2012.
The stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, or SOFIA, made the discovery.
Place: Not specified
The first known kind of molecule to develop in the universe has been found in space, following many years of research. In this instance, scientists have located its signal within our galaxy with the help of the world’s largest aerial observatory.

The early Universe must have consisted of a comparatively small number of distinct types of atoms. Around 100,000 years after the big bang, helium and hydrogen were assumed to have first interacted to form the chemical known as helium hydride. Helium hydride has never been found in space, even though it would need to exist in some parts of the cosmos today.
