12. The Ancient Dokos Shipwreck

Current Estimated Value: Undisclosed
It disappeared between 2,700 and 2,200 B.C.
Discovered in 1975
This old shipwreck would hardly resemble anything in the modern era. Everything biodegradable that was on board has long since vanished, dissolving into the ocean’s depths. All that is left are ceramic objects, such as the clay vases that were being transported on board the ship. Peter Throckmorton, an American archaeologist, found these remains, which are estimated to be about 4,000 years old.

The debris is so valuable because of these remnants. These are the largest known assemblages of ceramics from the ship’s own era, the second Proto-Helladic period. This pottery, according to historians and archaeologists, predates the invention of the pottery wheel.
