The welded steel armour of the LAV-25 has a range of 4.71 to 9.71 mm. Its sole purpose is to provide protection from small weapons shots, such as those fired by a Kalashnikov rifle. Two reasons are served by the absence of heavy-duty armor: financial and weight savings. The operational range of the LAV-25 is 410 miles, and its maximum speed is 62 mph.
