Who hasn’t had a thrilling summer or two riding the various attractions that Six Flags theme parks across the country have to offer? Although it brought happiness to a lot of people, the history of Six Flags in New Orleans was regrettably not so fortunate. Known as one of the most eerie closed theme parks, the park closed its doors in 2005 due to catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Katrina.

The park simply lacked the funding to be reopened even after the storm passed, and over time it continued to get worse and worse. The park has an eerie sign that reads, “closed for the storm,” at the gate. Because of this atmosphere, many people have used the park as a filming setting for post-apocalyptic films, including Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Jurassic World.
