Kitty litter and litter boxes have always been surprising aids to mechanics. Oil spills can be caught in empty litter boxes, and litter itself can be used to clean them up. Clay-based cat litter is quite absorbent, and you can apply it to an oil stain and let it sit for thirty minutes if it is a minor blemish.

If the oil stain is significant, allow the kitty litter to sit overnight. When it’s finished sitting, remove the litter from the stain. Use a bristle brush and laundry or dish detergent to clean off any remaining residue. Rinse the soap residue with water, and the oil traces should disappear.
