In Paris, France, contractors discovered a seventeenth-century artwork concealed behind an arbitrary wall during the opening of a new store. The 10′ by 20′ artwork showed a marquis entering Jerusalem’s holy city accompanied by his courtiers.

The artwork was probably made by a court painter employed by Louis XIV of France, and it was kept out of the hands of Nazi looters who destroyed France in World War II. Charles Le Brun, the court artist who Louis XIV dubbed the “greatest French painter” in history, may have created the artwork.
