Gab Scanu’s photograph “Mada’in Saleh” is an aerial view of an old Saudi archaeological site. The photographer described it as the “single most incredible sight” he has “ever witnessed” on Instagram. The Mavic Air was utilized by the Australian travel photographer to capture the image, he added.

What, then, is Mada’in Saleh? Known by another name, Hegra is an ancient Nabatean Kingdom archeological site. Due to a tale found in the Quran about the locals being chastised by God for worshiping idols, the location has developed a reputation for being cursed. To dispel the site’s “cursed” reputation, the Saudi government has made an effort to entice tourists and photographers to visit.
