Not all liquid products have an expiration date. Even things you would have assumed would last forever occasionally have a shelf life. Car seats are simply one of many things we take for granted. A Buzzfeed investigation claims that as people age, the materials used to build car seats frequently stretch and constrict.

When you consider that a car can get extremely cold in the winter or extremely hot in the summer, you can see how the seat’s structure can alter with time. It is recommended that these be replaced every five to six years in order to protect young children.
While it’s common knowledge that children should ride in car seats appropriate for their age, the seat’s quality should also be taken into consideration. These seemingly insignificant adjustments are what, in the worst-case scenario, might make all the difference.
