According to a 2017 German scientific study, in order to reduce the chance of germs spreading, we should change our sponges at least once a week. There’s no guarantee that cleaning and sanitizing them will get rid of anything nasty they’ve come into contact with.
Replacing sponges doesn’t have to be a costly task—packs of them cost about $2 at places like Walmart. While it’s understandable that we would all prefer to save our money and use it for more interesting activities, protecting our families’ safety comes first.
