The discovery of a hole in the backyard by Emma and Kevin James of the United Kingdom prompted them to look into the possibility of a structural problem with the house. When they attempted to dig down into the divot in their garden, it turned into a chasm.

Looking inside, the couple discovered a series of rickety steps that led to a subterranean area. Or so they think, since neither partner wants to go into the hole and explore it. What this chasm is and how it got there is still a mystery; inquiries to utility providers, city officials, and even the home’s original builders have yielded no information.
