Paul McKenzie’s “Outer Space Flamingos” won an award at the 2020 Siena Drone Photo Awards, and it also happens to be one of the most inventive titles ever. Irish photographer McKenzie has captured numerous images of these stunning birds; he frequently spends hours lying in muck to capture a decent shot.

The photo “Outer Space Flamingos” was taken at the East African Soda Lakes, a group of flamingo-inhabited alkaline lakes. Because the birds stamp their feet on the muddy, black lakebed to help stir up food from the bottom, the lake behind them is dark and resembles a galaxy. A DJI Mavic 2 Pro may have been the drone used to capture this image; it performs admirably even in the hot, muggy weather that surrounds the Soda Lakes.
