11. Road Workers Find an Ancient Chinese Mummy

The sheer number of old, historical artifacts that can be discovered by accident is astounding. When excavating a new pass in March 2011, Chinese road builders came across the extraordinarily well-preserved remains of a 700-year-old woman from the Ming Dynasty, which ruled China from 1368 to 1644.

Based on her shape, which was enclosed in a wooden tomb, the woman was obviously of a high rank. From her face to her shoes, the woman’s features have not changed much from when they were first discovered. Anthropologists have been able to gain a genuine understanding of Ming Dynasty life through this discovery.
