1. Live WWII Bombs Found in Orlando Neighborhood

Location: Florida’s Orlando
Year of discovery: 2008; estimated value (cleanup costs): $10 million*
Not as offensive as gold and other treasure, this find is not exactly one you would want to have in your neighborhood. It was found that live World War II bombs were concealed across a thousand-home complex in an Orlando, Florida, neighborhood.

The area used to be the PineCastle Jeep Range, where bomb tests were conducted by WWII engineers. It required the Army Corps to intervene and expend $10 million to remove the devices. The well-maintained yards in 2008 were littered with small red flags indicating the locations of the devices. It seems logical that the American military’s silence over allowing buildings to be constructed on a former bomb-testing zone infuriated a lot of people.
