The USS Arizona was built at the Brooklyn Naval Yard in March 1913, not to be confused with a ship of the same name that served in the Civil War. Naturally, the BB-39 battleship was built for the American Navy, and her first combat experience came on December 7, 1941, during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Several armor-piercing bombs dropped from the air struck Arizona. In the process of detonating a magazine, one bomb claimed the lives of nearly 1,000 officers and crew members as the battleship sank. Arizona still sits at the base of Pearl Harbor, beneath the USS Arizona Memorial.
