There were many incredibly gorgeous entries in the Drone Photo Awards of 2021, but only a select handful were chosen as prize winners after they stood out from the others. In the summer of 2022, Florian Ledoux took the picture “Melting Ice Cap,” which served as a chilling reminder of the effects of climate change.

In “Melting Ice Cap,” the Svalbard archipelago was highlighted. In the summer of 2020, the air temperature there unexpectedly rose to 71.06 degrees Fahrenheit, shattering meteorological records. As the melting of the Austfonna Ice Cap accelerated, fresh water began to pour into the ocean. Svalbard has seen a gradual increase in temperature over the last 50 years.
